Basorun Seinde Arogbofa, a former secretary of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation Afenifere, has been formally inducted into the Hall of Fame and invested as a Fellow of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA). This prestigious recognition honors his extensive literary contributions and decades of dedicated service to public life, marking a significant milestone in his distinguished career.
Celebration at 87th Birthday and Book Presentation
The dual honors were conferred during Arogbofa's 87th birthday anniversary celebration, held at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) over the weekend. The event also featured the presentation of two significant books: 'Understanding Afenifere: A Journey through the Yoruba Leadership Organisation', authored by Arogbofa himself, and 'Seinde Arogbofa: A Quintessential Role Model', co-authored by Prof. W. Aderounmu and Jare Ajayi. These works delve into the history of Afenifere and Arogbofa's impactful life, adding to his literary legacy.
Governor Aiyedatiwa Praises Intellectual Depth and Moral Authority
Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, in his remarks, lauded Arogbofa as a towering figure whose life exemplifies intellectual depth, moral authority, and enduring relevance in public service. The governor emphasized that the ANA Fellowship investiture rightly acknowledges not only Arogbofa's literary achievements but also his role in shaping enduring ideas and narratives that benefit society. "For decades, he has demonstrated that public life can be principled, activism refined by intellect, and leadership firm without bitterness," Aiyedatiwa stated, highlighting how such voices of conscience help systems thrive and governments remain grounded.
Former Defence Minister Tokunbo Kayode Highlights Educational Impact
Former Minister of Defence Tokunbo Kayode, who chaired the occasion, underscored Arogbofa's lifestyle as a valuable lesson for younger generations, particularly Gen Z, encouraging them to cultivate reading and writing habits. He praised Arogbofa's book on Afenifere for providing clarity on the organisation's identity and purpose, noting that it opens new avenues for Afenifere to expand its scope and become more dynamic. "Arogbofa's work summarises Afenifere's history, ensuring Yoruba culture and ethos do not fade but are rejuvenated by involving younger generations," Kayode remarked, expressing gratitude for Arogbofa's efforts.

Chief Sola Ebiseni also spoke at the event, celebrating Arogbofa's accomplishments as an educationist, celebrated author, and key figure in the struggle for the creation of the old Ondo State. Ebiseni highlighted their close collaboration in the National Caucus of Afenifere and the 2014 National Conference, noting Arogbofa's long tenure as Secretary General and his own honor in succeeding him since 2021.
In a book review, Prof. Femi Mimiko, represented by Prof. Francis Ayodeji Gbore, Vice-Chancellor of Sam Maris University, described the presented books as thought-provoking and well-researched works that address key societal issues. He emphasized their relevance in today's world, offering practical insights for readers from diverse backgrounds.
