Edo Government Commits to Fostering Creative Talents for Economic Growth
The Edo State Government has reaffirmed its dedication to collaborating with the creative sector to harness and develop the abundant talents within the state. This commitment was emphasized by Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa during a meeting with members of the creative community in his office yesterday.
Government's Resolve to Support Creatives
Idahosa expressed the administration's strong resolve to build synergy and provide robust support for the creative community. He highlighted that the success of these artists and entertainers is crucial to galvanizing support for the SHINE Agenda, a key government initiative focused on youth empowerment, job creation, and talent discovery.
"The Okpebholo-led administration is fully aware of the significant contributions made by the entertainment industry in Edo State," Idahosa stated. "The abundance and actualisation of creative talent have played a vital role in giving meaning to our policies, particularly those aimed at strengthening youth opportunities and fostering economic growth."
Appointment and Foundation of Support
To demonstrate this commitment, the government has appointed Solomon Okosun, a member of the creative community, to work within the administration. Idahosa noted that this appointment serves as a foundational step in providing ongoing support from the Edo State Government to creatives across various fields.
"This government is always ready to work with you, and this accounts for the appointment of your colleague, Solomon Okosun, to work in this administration," he explained. "This is the foundation of support from the Edo State Government to the creatives."
Creative Community's Appeal
Earlier in the meeting, the entertainers, led by Amb. Solomon Okosun, Director of Entertainment and Creative Economy at the Edo Creative Hub, appealed for greater inclusion in government activities. They also requested soft loans to support their crafts, which often require significant capital investment.
The group comprised a diverse range of professionals, including:
- Comedians
- Actors
- Photographers
- Videographers
- Musicians
- Content creators
- Models
- Hype men
- Deejays
- Filmmakers
Idahosa acknowledged their contributions and promised that the government would thoroughly investigate their proposal for support, ensuring that their needs are addressed to further boost the state's creative economy.
