The inaugural Pastor Emily Aig-Imoukhuede Memorial Lecture is scheduled for Monday, June 8, 2026, at the MUSON Centre in Lagos. This event marks the fifth memorial anniversary of the late Pastor Emily Okhenren Aig-Imoukhuede, who passed away on June 8, 2021.
Lecture Theme and Speaker
The lecture, themed “Leadership and Service to God, Country, and Humanity,” will be delivered by the Most Reverend Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto. Bishop Kukah is widely recognized across Africa for his insightful perspectives on faith, leadership, justice, and nation-building.
Fola Adeola, a distinguished entrepreneur, banker, investor, and statesman, will chair the event. His extensive contributions to business development, public policy, and leadership across Africa have earned him widespread respect and admiration.
Purpose of the Memorial Lecture
The memorial lecture has been established to honor and preserve the values that defined Pastor Emily Aig-Imoukhuede’s life and legacy: faith, integrity, selfless service, compassion, excellence, and an unwavering commitment to societal advancement. It is envisioned as an enduring platform for reflection on leadership, citizenship, nation-building, and service to humanity.
The lecture serves not only as a tribute to an extraordinary life but also as a call to action for Nigerians to embrace ethical leadership, service, responsibility, and national renewal—values that Pastor Emily embodied throughout her life.
Legacy of Pastor Emily Aig-Imoukhuede
Pastor Emily Aig-Imoukhuede lived an exemplary life devoted to God, family, community, and country. She was renowned for her warmth, generosity, and strength of character, touching countless lives through her service, philanthropy, mentorship, and leadership.
She was a distinguished alumna of the University of Ibadan, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History (Second Class Upper Division). Her accomplished career spanned education, the arts, public administration, private enterprise, and public service. She began her professional journey in the classroom, later served as a curator at the National Museum, and established one of Nigeria’s pioneering private art galleries. She also served as National President of the National Council for Women Societies, providing leadership to one of Nigeria’s foremost women’s organizations.
Her legacy continues to inspire future generations through initiatives dedicated to promoting excellence in public service and leadership. Among these is the Emily Aig-Imoukhuede Memorial Award, established by the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation to recognize and celebrate outstanding performance, integrity, and commitment within Nigeria’s public service.
