Ibrahim's interest in the creative industry began at St. Saviour's Primary School, where he discovered a love for storytelling. He would rewrite entire books in his own words, creating unique versions that felt personal. By secondary school, he was writing and directing school plays, with friends queuing to read his work. Despite this talent, he initially pursued banking and finance at university, working in a financial institution after graduation. However, the traditional 9-to-5 lifestyle did not align with his aspirations. His turning point came when he entered and won the Beeta Universal writing competition, awakening his desire to pursue a career in the creative industry. In December 2021, he founded QIB Productions, and since then, the company has consistently produced at least three interactive theatre productions each year.

What is Interactive Theatre?

Interactive theatre actively involves the audience in the storytelling process. Instead of being passive spectators, audience members become part of the experience. The performance happens within their space, and they are encouraged to engage with characters and make key decisions that affect the story's direction. No two performances are the same because audience choices shape the experience. Ibrahim independently conceived this idea, not initially aware that similar concepts existed globally. He was instrumental in introducing, developing, and popularizing this style of theatre in Nigeria through QIB Productions.

The acronym QIB comes from Qudus Ibrahim's name. QIB Productions represents innovation, immersion, and community. Initially, popular faces were important for attracting audiences, but as the brand grew, the QIB Productions name itself became a draw. The company now sells out shows regardless of whether the cast includes well-known names or emerging talent.

Challenges and Sustainability

Funding has been a major challenge, with most productions self-funded. Finding suitable locations was also difficult, but a strong partnership with The Garden in Ikoyi has provided a venue. Early on, getting people to attend shows was hard, but consistent publicity and stronger marketing improved audience turnout. Sustainability strategies include growth, innovation, evolution, and expansion. After five years in Lagos, QIB Productions is expanding to Abuja, with requests from other Nigerian states and international interest from Ghana, London, and the United States. Plans include expanding into TV shows, film, and other storytelling forms.

His role model is his mother, who taught him the value of independence and being his own boss.

Notable Productions

One of Ibrahim's favorite productions is The Wedding, which was designed to feel like attending a wedding where the audience is part of the story. A dress code of all white was introduced to evoke the feeling of wearing 'asoebi'. Initially unsure if audiences would embrace it, Ibrahim was pleasantly surprised when almost everyone showed up in white. Originally planned for four shows, the production ran for thirteen due to overwhelming demand, with consistent energy across all shows.
