The Oyo State Correspondent for The Guardian newspaper, Mr. Rotimi Agboluaje, has been elected as the new Secretary of the Correspondents' Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Oyo State. The executive election for the Correspondents' Chapel was held on Tuesday, 13 January 2026, at the chapel's secretariat located in the Mokola area of Ibadan. The exercise was keenly contested, leading to the selection of a new leadership team that will manage the chapel's affairs for a three-year term.
In the race for the secretary position, Rotimi Agboluaje secured a convincing win with 31 votes. His closest challenger, Mr. Musliudeen Adebayo of the Daily Post newspaper, garnered 10 votes. The chairmanship seat was clinched by Mr. Yinka Adeniran of The Nation newspaper.
Other members elected into the executive council include Mr. Remi Koleosho as Vice Chairman and Mr. Sheu Sulaiman of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) as Treasurer. Both officials were returned unopposed. The election was overseen by a three-man committee led by Pastor Ola Ajayi and observed by officials from the NUJ Oyo State Council, including the State Council Chairman, Comrade Akeem Abas.
