Gender activist Magdalene Adamu Musa has voiced her disappointment over a Taraba lady who knelt to accept an engagement ring from her partner. Reacting to a photo of the proposal, Magdalene stated that the woman's action reflects desperation, emphasizing that it is the man who should kneel to present the ring.
Feminist Perspective on Proposal Traditions
While acknowledging that she is in a healthy relationship, Magdalene declared that she would rather see the engagement called off than kneel to accept a ring. She argued that marriage should not be viewed as an achievement for women.
Social Media Outcry
In her post, Magdalene wrote: "This is not okay!!! Highly disappointed! The husband is supposed to kneel. This image sends a very bad message, like she’s desperate or something!! Omo I can’t ! I’m a feminist and I’m triggered. Make the engagement scatter kawai than for me to kneel oo. Kuyi hakuri." Her comments have sparked debate on social media about gender roles and traditions in modern relationships.
