Kiefer Sutherland Arrested for Alleged Assault on Driver in Hollywood
Actor Kiefer Sutherland arrested over alleged driver assault

British-Canadian actor Kiefer Sutherland, renowned for his role as Jack Bauer in the hit series '24', has found himself on the wrong side of the law following an alleged physical confrontation with a ride-share driver in Hollywood.

Details of the Hollywood Incident

According to a statement from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, January 12. The police report states that Sutherland entered a ride-share vehicle, where he physically assaulted the driver and made criminal threats. Authorities confirmed that, fortunately, the victim did not sustain any injuries from the encounter.

The actor was subsequently taken into custody. Following his arrest, Sutherland was released after posting a $50,000 bond, which is approximately £37,000. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance to answer to the charges on February 2.

A Look at Sutherland's Past Legal Troubles

This is not the first time the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actor has faced legal issues. In September 2007, Sutherland was arrested on drunk driving charges after failing a field sobriety test. He later pleaded no contest to a DUI charge and was sentenced to serve 48 days in jail.

Reflecting on that experience in a 2022 interview with NME, Sutherland described his time in county jail. “This isn’t like prison, this is kind of a warehouse,” he said. “In a way, prison is a refined experience compared to county jail.”

From 'The Lost Boys' to 'Designated Survivor'

Kiefer Sutherland first rose to fame in the 1980s with roles in popular films like The Lost Boys, Young Guns, and Flatliners. His career reached new heights in the 2000s with the groundbreaking action series '24', which aired from 2001 to 2010 and was revived in 2014. His portrayal of the relentless agent Jack Bauer earned him critical acclaim and major awards.

More recently, he led the political drama series Designated Survivor from 2016 to 2019. Sutherland is the son of the late, legendary actor Donald Sutherland, who passed away in 2024 at the age of 88.

The recent arrest casts a shadow over the actor's public persona, with fans and the entertainment industry awaiting the outcome of the forthcoming court proceedings.
