Nollywood actress Esther Nwachukwu has ignited a fresh debate on marital responsibilities in Nigeria with a controversial call for legal action against women who provoke their husbands.
Actress Advocates for Legal Sanctions
In a recent interview with The PUNCH newspaper, the outspoken thespian argued that Nigerian society must begin to address what she terms "provocative behaviour" among some married women. Nwachukwu, who once admitted to sleeping with 100 men, stated that blame in marital conflicts is often unfairly one-sided.
"Women should not provoke men to anger. In fact, the government should start sanctioning women for their provocative behaviour in marriage," she declared.
She elaborated that while women deserve support when facing abuse, men are rarely acknowledged for their positive efforts. "Women speaking up when they are abused is fine. But they should also acknowledge when men do their best for them. Men are barely cared for," Nwachukwu explained. She described this imbalance as a major flaw in public discourse on marriage.
Nwachukwu's Take on Regina Daniels and Ned Nwoko
The actress also revisited her previous comments concerning the marital drama between actress Regina Daniels and her husband, Senator Ned Nwoko. Nwachukwu claimed the current controversy did not surprise her, as she had already foreseen the outcome.
"Regina Daniels has nothing to lose; she's young and may end up marrying a white man," she said. "But she has publicly disgraced Ned Nwoko and damaged his reputation. I am convinced Ned would lose the next election."
Advice for May Edochie and Criticism of Davido
In related commentary, Nwachukwu advised May Edochie, the estranged wife of actor Yul Edochie, to consider dropping the Edochie surname. This advice came after May's phone number was leaked online amid a family feud. The actress argued that the Edochie family had united against May and that there was "nothing special" about the name she has built her own success upon.
Furthermore, Nwachukwu did not spare music superstar Davido. She criticized him for buying a luxurious car for his wife Chioma's manager, Ubi Franklin, describing the manager as a "nanny." She advised Davido to focus on his responsibilities, particularly towards his first daughter, Imade.
Esther Nwachukwu's comments, made in an interview published on December 6, 2025, continue to stir significant conversation online about gender dynamics, accountability, and celebrity culture in Nigeria.
