A wedding in Austin, Texas, took an unexpected turn when the best man collapsed while the couple exchanged vows. Drayton Williams, 28, was standing beside his best friend during the outdoor ceremony on Sunday, May 24, when he suddenly fell to the ground with a loud thud.
Approximately 10 minutes into the ceremony, guests gasped in shock as Williams lost consciousness. The groom and another groomsman quickly rushed to his aid and helped him back to his feet.
Williams later explained that he had locked his knees while standing, which combined with nervousness caused dizziness. He said he thought it was just nerves and did not expect to faint. The Mayo Clinic notes that locking the knees can lead to vasovagal syncope, a common fainting spell caused by a sudden drop in blood pressure and heart rate due to blood pooling in the legs and reduced blood flow to the brain.
Despite the medical episode, the officiant remained unfazed. He briefly glanced at the commotion and continued the ceremony as if nothing had happened. Williams shared footage of the incident on TikTok a few days later, where it garnered over 6 million views.
Many online users found the officiant's reaction humorous. One joked, 'Schedule must've been real tight,' while another commented, 'The definition of the show must go on.'
