Nollywood actor Daniel Etim Effiong has opened up about a harrowing experience from his childhood, revealing that his father was once sentenced to death by hanging. The actor shared this personal story during an appearance on the Dear Life series with Ifedayo Agoro.
The Story of His Father
According to Effiong, when he was just one year old, his father was sentenced to death by firing squad. He described how his father experienced what he called divine intervention that kept him alive even after the sentence was passed. The actor explained that his father had a friend in the army who planned to overthrow the then-military head of state, Ibrahim Babangida. His father's friend confided in him about the plot, and when the friend was caught, he was asked who he had told, leading to the mention of Effiong's father.
Detention and Execution
Effiong recounted that his father was detained. One day, a man came in and called out three names, including his father's. The others were said to be on transfer, but they were actually taken out and executed. Those called initially protested, thinking it was a transfer, until they later realized what had happened to the others taken from the prison.
