Davido Appeals to Uzodimma Over Osun Election

Afrobeats superstar Davido has publicly appealed to Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma to support a peaceful and democratic governorship election in Osun State, scheduled for August 15. The singer made the remarks during a press conference in Osogbo on Wednesday, where he addressed security concerns and the conduct of the upcoming poll.

Davido, who has close ties to Osun State through his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, said he had come across reports suggesting possible attempts to influence the election outcome. Although he admitted he could not independently verify the claims, he urged Uzodimma to use his influence to uphold peace and democracy.

Davido's Emotional Appeal to Uzodimma

Speaking before journalists and supporters, Davido addressed Uzodimma directly, saying, "And to our daddy from Imo State, I say this with respect, sir." He stressed that the people of Osun should be allowed to choose their preferred candidate without intimidation or interference.

In a moment that resonated with many, Davido referenced his wife, Chioma, to explain why the appeal was personal to him. He noted that his connection to Imo State goes beyond politics, as Chioma hails from the state. "We have mutual connections, and I have a deep connection to Imo State. My wife, Chioma, is from the state, which makes this appeal more sincere," he said.

Repeated Calls for Peace in Osun

Davido repeatedly called for calm, urging all stakeholders to prioritize peace over political interests. "Please, let Osun remain peaceful," he said several times during the briefing. His remarks have drawn widespread attention on social media, with many reacting to his appeal.

On X (formerly Twitter), user @QingZuko criticized Davido's timing, writing, "Davido only remember say Chioma from Imo when uncle seat dey shake. All these years Imo issues dey, silence. Selective family love sharp. Musician wey dey advise governor, focus on your next album first." Another user, @cheriff4life, commented, "We are still begging govt to allow people chose their candidate.. this is the least we should be begging for. So far the means of electing people to offices are not credible, that mean we wont stop having all this demonic leaders everywhere."

Davido's Bond with His PA, Lati

In related news, Davido recently opened up about his deep bond with his longtime personal assistant, Lateef Abiola, popularly known as Lati. The singer revealed that Lati, once a staff member under his late mother, Veronica Adeleke, became a pivotal figure in his journey, sneaking him out at night to recording studios when his father was asleep.

As the Osun election approaches, Davido's appeal highlights the growing concerns over electoral integrity and the need for peaceful conduct. The singer's call to Governor Uzodimma underscores the importance of allowing Osun residents to decide their future at the ballot box without fear or undue influence.
