Davido Opens Up About Political Ambition and Alternative Career Path
Afrobeats superstar Davido has candidly shared his evolving perspective on politics and an unexpected backup career plan during a recent livestream. The singer, whose real name is David Adeleke, explained that his early interest in partisan politics has significantly diminished over time.
Reconsidering Political Aspirations
Davido pointed to the challenges faced by other celebrities who have transitioned into politics, noting that their moves have not been particularly successful. This observation has led him to reassess the potential risks to his name, career, and the goodwill he has built across the entertainment industry.
"Before, I wanted to go into politics, but honestly, now, I see it two ways," Davido stated. "All my years of goodwill, my name and my career, all the hard work and the fan base we have built, it is tricky because the way people look at things; the superstars that have gone into politics, the transition hasn’t really been successful."
He emphasized that politics is a field best suited for those fully dedicated to it, suggesting that entertainers may struggle to fit into that system. "I feel like if you are a politician, you are a politician. It is like it is their business," he added, highlighting the distinct nature of political careers.
Journalism as an Alternative Path
When discussing his future beyond music, Davido revealed a surprising alternative career choice: journalism. He attributed this potential path to his love for movies and storytelling, which could have guided him if his music career had not taken off.
"I like movies. I like watching movies. I would have been a journalist," Davido explained, showcasing his passion for narrative and media.
Context and Background
This disclosure comes amid other personal developments, including a recent lawsuit involving a social media user who supported Davido's baby mama, Sophia Momodu. The user expressed regret online after being served with legal action, claiming she meant no harm and was only standing against bullying.
Davido's reflections offer a glimpse into the careful considerations celebrities must make when balancing public image with new ventures, underscoring the complexities of fame and career transitions in the entertainment industry.
