Sean 'Diddy' Combs' release from prison has been rescheduled to February 2028, several weeks earlier than his previous release date. The 56-year-old music mogul is currently serving a 50-month sentence at the low-security Federal Correctional Institution in Fort Dix, New Jersey, following his conviction in July 2025 on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. The conviction came after a federal sex trafficking trial in New York.
Revised Release Date
According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons website, Combs' new release date is February 23, 2028. His initial release date was June 4, 2028, which had already been moved up to April 2028 earlier this year. The latest adjustment marks the second time his release date has been advanced.
Trial and Conviction
Combs was found guilty following a seven-week trial that concluded in July 2025. He was acquitted on separate sex trafficking and racketeering charges, which could have carried life sentences. The charges on which he was convicted fall under the Mann Act, a federal law prohibiting the transportation of individuals across state lines for prostitution or other immoral purposes.
Appeal Process
Combs' legal team has filed an appeal with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, challenging both the conviction and the sentence. The defense argues that the Mann Act was improperly applied in this case and that U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian acted as a '13th juror' by imposing an unusually long sentence for a Mann Act violation. Additionally, the defense contends that the sentence was improperly enhanced using conduct linked to the charges for which Combs was acquitted, a practice known as acquitted conduct sentencing. The appeal remains pending before a three-judge panel.
