Doris Ogala's Legal Battle with Pastor Okafor Takes New Twist, Prosecutor Warns
Doris Ogala's Legal Battle with Pastor Okafor Takes New Twist

Nollywood actress Doris Ogala failed to appear before the Federal High Court in Lagos for the second consecutive time on Tuesday, adding a new twist to her legal battle with cleric Pastor Chris Okafor.

Court Proceedings

The case, which involves allegations of cyberstalking, cyberbullying, dissemination of false information, and attempted extortion, was called before Justice Akintayo Aluko. However, the actress was not present in court.

Defense counsel N.C. Atulomah informed the court that Ogala was receiving medical treatment at a Federal Medical Centre. He stated that supporting affidavits had been filed to justify the request for another adjournment.

Atulomah assured the court that the adjournment would not prejudice the prosecution and pledged that Ogala would appear at the next hearing.

Prosecutor's Concerns

While the defense's submission seemed straightforward, the prosecution raised concerns. Counsel Tolulope Mokolu noted that the medical report indicated Ogala had been discharged from the hospital and was only attending follow-up outpatient treatment.

Mokolu further highlighted that Ogala had recently participated in political activities, including her state's party primary election, campaigning, emerging victorious, and celebrating her success. These activities, he argued, cast doubt on the severity of her health condition.

“I am reluctantly acceding to the counsel's plea for adjournment,” Mokolu told the court. He warned that if the actress failed to appear on the next adjourned date, he would seek a bench warrant.

Charges Against Ogala

Ogala faces multiple charges under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Amendment Act, 2024. According to court filings, the prosecution alleges that she published personal and private materials relating to Pastor Chris Okafor without his consent.

She is also accused of sharing photographs, messages, and videos containing allegations that the cleric sexually assaulted his wife, engaged in ritual practices, and was responsible for another person's death. Prosecutors claim these publications were false and designed to damage his reputation.

Additionally, Ogala is alleged to have threatened to continue releasing private materials unless she was compensated financially or provided with a house. These remain allegations, and Ogala has yet to enter a plea.
