Yomi Fabiyi Makes Explosive Claims About Mohbad's Death
Nigerian actor Yomi Fabiyi has leveled serious new allegations regarding the tragic passing of singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, widely known as Mohbad. In a detailed video statement shared on his Instagram platform, Fabiyi asserted that the musician's demise was not natural but rather a deliberate homicide that occurred within his own residence.
Allegations of Murder and Domestic Involvement
Fabiyi specifically pointed fingers at Mohbad's wife, Omowunmi Cynthia Adebanjo, claiming she was both present during the incident and directly implicated in the events. According to the actor, his organization Break the Silence Foundation, alongside other justice advocates, has been persistently investigating the case. He revealed that fresh evidence prompted a formal petition to the presidency, leading to a May 2025 directive for the Force Criminal Investigation Department in Abuja to reopen the investigation.
Arrests and Ongoing Investigations
The renewed probe reportedly resulted in several arrests. Fabiyi stated that Omowunmi surrendered herself to authorities in November 2025 and is being investigated for multiple charges including murder, theft, criminal intimidation, conspiracy, and concealment of evidence. Additionally, Mohbad's friend Sadiq Ayobami Splendid and another individual named Damola Abeeb Idowu were taken into custody. However, Fabiyi emphasized that four other suspects remain at large and have not yet faced legal proceedings.
Accusations Against Former Police Chief
In his most damning allegations, Fabiyi accused former Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun of actively obstructing justice. He claimed Egbetokun deliberately protected suspects by granting them what he termed "charade bail" despite explicit presidential instructions to the contrary. "Kayode Egbetokun has been working for the syndicate covering them up," Fabiyi declared, adding that the former police chief's actions constituted a disrespect to the presidency.
Criticism of Lagos Authorities
The actor also criticized the Lagos State Police Command's handling of the case, particularly their focus on a nurse who allegedly administered an injection to Mohbad. Fabiyi argued this narrative was inconsistent and represented a cover-up attempt. He further condemned Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for remarks questioning the case's significance, describing the governor's comments as "unbefitting" for such a high-profile investigation.
Appeal for Presidential and Police Intervention
Fabiyi made a direct appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and current Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu to rectify what he called anomalies created by the previous administration. He urged Disu to order the arrest of the remaining four suspects regardless of their political connections, warning that failure to act could embolden those responsible to target other musicians. "Justice for Mohbad is sacrosanct and germane," Fabiyi emphasized.
Ritual Allegations During Burial
Adding to his claims, Fabiyi described disturbing behavior during Mohbad's burial ceremony. He alleged that Omowunmi threw a white cloth and black substance into the grave as the casket was lowered, suggesting these actions indicated complicity in the singer's death. "If you don't have a hand in somebody's death, you won't do that," he stated.
Call to Action and Broader Context
The actor concluded by urging Nigerian youth to continue demanding justice, asserting that silence would only enable those responsible to evade accountability. His allegations come amid ongoing controversy surrounding Mohbad's death, including recent protests by fellow musician Prime Boy who accused the late singer's family of misusing donated funds and demanded police clearance of his own name in connection with the case.
