Genesis Dragged for Canceling Church Harvest Over Oyo School Kidnapping
Genesis Faces Backlash for Canceling Harvest Over Oyo Abduction

Prophet Israel Oladele Ogundipe, popularly known as Genesis, has faced criticism from some of his followers for his response to the abduction of schoolchildren in Oyo State. The clergyman, who leads Genesis Global, announced the cancellation of the annual children's harvest, known as Jubilee, citing the pain and suffering of affected families.

Genesis Announces Cancellation of Jubilee Harvest

While preaching in his church, Genesis stated that the children's harvest, a program celebrated annually across the Celestial Church, would not be held this year at Genesis Global. He explained that the decision was made out of respect for the missing children and their families, who are currently enduring immense hardship. He apologized to members who had already made preparations, such as purchasing cows, and assured them that the event would return in grand style next year if everyone remains alive and well.

Mixed Reactions from Fans and Critics

Reacting to the video announcement, social media users were divided. Some criticized Genesis, recalling his vocal support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the 2023 election campaign. They argued that he could not distance himself from an administration under which such a tragic incident occurred. Others, however, praised his decision, noting that he was among the few religious leaders who had publicly responded to the abduction.

Comments on Instagram reflected the divide. User @jay_chemicals_plastics.ng wrote, "But you supported Tinubu and are still supporting him. Who are you deceiving?" Another user, @josephekwemeze, said, "I don't really take this guy serious, because when he was supposed to speak, he chose tribalism over truthfulness." Conversely, @dara_simi_seunayo expressed support, saying, "God bless you, sir. Heaven is your home when you finish your journey in this world, you’re a great man."

Genesis' Statement in Full

In his address, Genesis said, "With a sense of humility and honor, we cancel our Jubilee Harvest this year. What are we celebrating? We have lost some children. You know, we do it all over the Celestial Church on the same day. But Genesis Global, no Jubilee Harvest. I apologize if I have offended you. If you have bought cows or made the chairman. If we are still alive, we will have many more."

Broader Context: Celebrities React to Oyo School Attack

The abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State has sparked widespread reactions from celebrities and public figures. Comedian Cute Abiola also joined the conversation, referencing former first lady Patience Jonathan and apologizing for the backlash she faced over her viral crying video years ago. His post drew prayers for the safe return of the abducted children and calls for peace and security in Nigeria.

As the situation unfolds, many Nigerians continue to demand action from authorities to ensure the safe return of the victims and to prevent future incidents.
