Israel Afeare, widely known as Israel DMW and the logistics manager for music star Davido, has officially announced the burial arrangements for his late father, Eric Afeare. The elder Afeare passed away earlier this year at the age of 71.
Burial Schedule
According to the funeral programme made available to The Guardian, the burial activities will take place across Owan East Local Government Area and Benin City, both in Edo State. The remains of Eric Afeare will be removed from Igue Mortuary on Thursday, July 9, 2026, and transported to his residence in Oguedo Quarters, Ievbu-Ake, for a social wake.
Funeral Service and Interment
A funeral service and interment are scheduled for Friday, July 10, 2026, at the deceased's compound in Oguedo Quarters, Ievbu-Ake, Owan East Local Government Area. The ceremony is expected to commence at 10 a.m.
Additional Events
On Saturday, July 11, an afternoon wake will be held at the family residence from 2 p.m. A thanksgiving service is planned for Sunday, July 12, at the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Ake, beginning at 10 a.m. The final event, a reception for guests, will take place on July 19 at Crown Heart Pavilion, Country Road, Benin City, starting at noon.
Tribute to a Father
The late Eric Afeare, a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police, died on March 2, 2026, at a hospital in Ibadan, Oyo State, after a brief illness. Speaking after his father's death, Israel DMW described him as the pillar of the family and a unifying force whose influence kept the family together. He said, 'It is sad losing my father at this time. We still need him with us, but God knows better. He was my pillar of strength, and he was instrumental in making the family an indivisible unit.'
The deceased is survived by two wives, eight children, and several extended family members.
