New Allegations in BBC Documentary
The Oscar-winning actor and Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto is facing a fresh wave of sexual misconduct allegations, detailed in a new BBC documentary titled "Jared Leto: Hollywood's Dark Secret." The documentary features interviews with 10 women, nine of whom are speaking publicly for the first time. Four of these women describe incidents involving criminal sexual conduct, including assault and threats, when they were teenagers.
Accounts of Four Women
One woman accuses Leto of assaulting her in a motel bathroom when she was 17. A second woman, identified as Alex, says Leto threatened her with sexual assault after she found herself alone with him in a dark hotel room following a Thirty Seconds to Mars concert in London in 2013. She claims he told her she would wake up "with a dick in her ass." A third woman says she had a sexual encounter with Leto in California in 2006, when she was 17, under the state's age of consent. She told the documentary's director that she mentioned to Leto that her father worked in law enforcement and that she knew the age of consent in California was 18, but that he just "shrugged it off like it wasn't a huge concern for him." Leto allegedly told another woman, "Age is just a number, and anyway, we're in Europe," after she informed him she was 17.
A fourth woman, identified as Etta, says she began receiving sexually explicit phone calls from Leto when she was 16, after meeting him through a Los Angeles modeling agency in 2014. She says she was later asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement, which she refused to sign but shared with the BBC.
Additional Witnesses and Corroboration
Two men who previously worked with Thirty Seconds to Mars also spoke to the documentary, claiming staff felt uncomfortable with how Leto interacted with teenage girls. They alleged he would sometimes invite them backstage or to the house where he was recording. "I think everyone thought the age gap was way too big," one of them said. The BBC says it corroborated parts of the women's accounts through contemporaneous messages, photographs, and interviews with friends and relatives. Multiple outlets report they have reached out to Leto's representatives for comment but had not heard back as of publication.
Previous Denials
This is not the first time Leto has faced such allegations. Last year, the newsletter Air Mail reported on nine separate sexual misconduct accusations against him, which his representatives denied at the time, calling the claims "demonstrably false."
