Justin Cary, the bassist for Grammy-nominated band Sixpence None the Richer, has died at the age of 50. His death came just days after he suffered a severe stroke.
Musician Passes Peacefully with Wife by His Side
Cary died peacefully on Thursday, with his wife Linda at his side, according to a heartbreaking update on a GoFundMe page established to support his family. The page did not disclose additional details about his final moments.
Frontwoman Leigh Nash delivered an emotional tribute, describing Cary as "kind, talented, and one of the funniest people" she had ever known. She recalled his "funky bass licks" and late-night hotel rescues, adding that she had been "looking forward to being his friend for a long time."
Career with Sixpence None the Richer
Cary joined the band in 1997, just before they achieved global fame with their self-titled album. The album featured the iconic smash "Kiss Me," which reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100. Their dreamy cover of The La's "There She Goes" followed as another popular hit in 1999.
Earlier this week, Nash had urgently asked fans for prayers after Cary was hospitalized in the ICU following two surgeries related to the stroke. His respected musicianship and irreplaceable humor leave a profound emptiness in the hearts of fans and friends alike.
Fans and Colleagues Mourn
Fans and colleagues have shared heartwarming tributes on social media, expressing shock and sorrow at the loss. Many highlighted Cary's warmth and talent, remembering him as a beloved figure in the music community.
In a separate but related entertainment news, Legit.ng also reported the death of Grammy-winning Nigerian singer and songwriter Mark Yinka Orabiyi, known professionally as Talay Riley. He died at 35 after a brutal stabbing in East London. His family confirmed the tragedy and thanked the public for their outpouring of love.
Justin Cary's death marks another significant loss in the music world, following the passing of other notable figures. Hollywood actor James Handy also died recently at 81 after a frightening incident in his home.
