A Nigerian lady, Kossy Anita, has publicly commended Anwuli Ekubo, the widow of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo, for her discretion and dignified conduct during his battle with advanced kidney cancer. Alexx Ekubo passed away on May 11 and was buried in his hometown of Arochukwu, Abia State, on June 18.
Why the Lady Praised Anwuli Ekubo
In a Facebook post on June 18, Anita highlighted that Anwuli never publicly disclosed her marriage to Alexx nor did she share details of his illness with the media. Despite undergoing hospital treatments with him, she kept the ordeal private. Anita noted that Anwuli deserves a standing ovation for handling the situation with grace and without seeking clout, a rarity in today's social media-driven world.
Anita wrote: "Alex's wife is a private person. Wedding happened we didn't hear shimkpa. Alex was sick, nothing was heard from her. She went through all that hospital ordeal with Alex and nothing flew into ears of bloggers. Please, this woman deserves a standing ovation for living her life and that of Alex on their terms." She also remarked on Anwuli's beauty and composure, adding that she was raised well.
Reactions from Social Media Users
The post generated mixed reactions. Esemaya Onyeka Juliet criticized Anita for making derogatory statements about other women while praising Anwuli. Miracle Alozie agreed that Anwuli's discretion was remarkable, noting that without Alexx's death, many would not have known he was married. Oluwadamilola Taiwo expressed sadness that such a good woman had to lose her husband. Asari Mfoniso Fred Essien Jr. praised Anwuli as an excellent woman, suggesting many men would want to marry her if she ever remarries. Gold Harry defended social butterflies, stating that being discreet does not make one a better wife.
Other Observations About Anwuli Ekubo
In a related story, a teacher pointed out two things Anwuli did at Alexx's funeral that stood out: she wore both her wedding band and her husband's, and she blew him kisses even in death. These actions further underscored her deep love and commitment.
