LSCCM urges intentional parenting at Eid-el-Adha event

The Lagos Secretariat Community Central Mosque (LSCCM) in Alausa became a hub for societal reformation over the weekend, as religious leaders, government officials, and stakeholders gathered to champion a return to core family values. Speaking at the 13th edition of the Eid-el-Adha Children Get-Together, organizers and guests linked rising insecurity and youth crime in Nigeria to a decline in proactive parenting.

Event Theme and Key Speakers

The event, jointly organized by LSCCM (CBD, Alausa) and the Shamsi Adisa Thomas Central Mosque (First Secretariat, Ikeja), was held under the theme: “From Guidance to Greatness: Nurturing Responsible Muslim Youth.” The special guest, Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat, wife of the Lagos State Deputy Governor, urged parents and community leaders to prioritize moral upbringing.

Mrs. Hamzat emphasized that Eid-el-Adha should remind society of its collective responsibility to the younger generation. “In a rapidly changing world, we must intentionally raise children who are responsible, respectful, and God-fearing. The greatest legacy is not wealth but good values,” she stated.

Call for Intentional Parenting

Alhaja Abdulhamid Jalilat, LSCCM Women Affairs Officer, lamented the decline in quality parenting. “Everything comes from home. We want righteous children, not kidnappers. Parents have lost grip on parenting; many mothers are not at home, turning children into orphans,” she said passionately. She also urged the government to enforce stricter penalties for kidnappers.

Dr. Saeed Ahmed, Chairman of the Mission Board of Imams, highlighted the importance of Seerah (prophetic biography) in youth training. “Seerah shows that Islamic virtues are practical realities. It opens minds to history and helps youth become responsible leaders,” he explained.

Event Conclusion

The event concluded with prayers for Lagos State and Nigeria. Mrs. Hamzat prayed for peace and prosperous futures for children. Alhaja Khadijah Omotosho facilitated sessions on character and peer resilience.
