Made Kuti Addresses Family Narcotics Misconception

Made Kuti Sets the Record Straight on Drug Use

“A lot of people think I smoke, but I don’t, and even my dad has quit. So, there is a big misconception that the family are all into narcotics, but most of us are not,” he said. The statement directly challenges the long-held public perception fueled by the family's iconic association with marijuana, particularly through his grandfather Fela Kuti's rebellious image.

When asked to describe himself in three words, Made chose “hardworking, loyal and passionate,” adding with a joke that “loyal” fits because “I’m a married man”. The lighthearted remark showcased his personality beyond the stage.

Musical Influences and Event Highlights

When asked which Nigerian artiste he currently listens to, Made named his grandfather, the legendary Fela Kuti, indicating that his musical inspiration remains rooted in the family legacy despite his own contemporary style.

The event, held at the US consul general's residence in Ikoyi on Wednesday, attracted senior government officials, diplomats, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and business executives. The gathering marked a significant occasion for cultural exchange and diplomacy.
