Actress and film producer Mary Remmy Njoku has ignited an online discussion with her recent remarks on the relationship between prayer and practical action. In a post shared on Instagram, the Nollywood star emphasized that physical problems demand physical solutions, urging Africans to match their faith with deliberate effort.
Prayer Alone Is Not Enough
Njoku argued that while prayer can offer guidance, strength, and wisdom, it cannot replace the need for concrete actions to address challenges such as poor road infrastructure, insecurity, healthcare deficiencies, and economic difficulties. She stressed that these issues require planning, accountability, and hard work.
Faith and Action Must Work Together
She illustrated her point by noting that food does not magically appear on a plate through prayer alone. Someone must plant, harvest, transport, and prepare it. Addressing African Christians specifically, she warned against confusing prayer with action.
“You cannot bind and cast away bad roads. You cannot rebuke a failing healthcare system into working. You cannot pray away the bandits who are terrorizing our lives,” she wrote.
Njoku concluded by asserting that faith and action are not opposites; rather, they must complement each other for meaningful change to occur. Her comments have sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many applauding her call for a balanced approach.
