Ghanaian actress Nana Akua Addo has responded to accusations from fashion brand ALmée Couture, who claimed she stole their design for the Cathedral dress she wore to the Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards (AMVCA).
Background of the Allegation
According to ALmée Couture, Nana, a Ghanaian model and actress, initially consulted with them, and they created the design. However, she allegedly chose not to continue business with them, only for them to later discover that she took the design to another designer. The brand expressed their displeasure publicly.
Nana's Response
In her response, Nana shared her chat logs with ALmée Couture. She claimed that the design was originally hers and that she showed it to them for production. When they stated they could not execute it as she envisioned, she took it to a Nigerian brand that brought her vision to life.
Nana wrote: "I've seen so much misinformation about my recent AMVCA outfit (Cathedral). I reached out to @almee.li for my outfit. I shared my idea with you and explained exactly how I wanted it. You mentioned that you didn't want to execute it the way I envisioned because of how detailed my ideas were, a refund was made, and I eventually got someone else to create it. So why and how is it now being claimed as yours? The entire concept and creative direction were my intellectual property."
She added in the caption: "THE AUDACITY!!! THIS WAS MY MOODBOARD architectural, structure!!! I carry my idea and concept come show you, you say you no fit do am, I carry my Kaya go another place, headache don Dey worry you."
Nana also thanked the Nigerian designer who took the "risk" to make the dress, emphasizing that the final creation was a result of her own vision and direction.
