The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has disclosed that he and the party's presidential candidate, Peter Obi, offered Aisha Yesufu a ticket to run for the House of Representatives, but she turned it down.
Dickson made this revelation while addressing a stakeholders' meeting in Abuja. The disclosure comes amid recent internal political tensions within the party concerning the conduct of its primary elections. The friction escalated after Yesufu, who had been vying for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial ticket under the party, criticized Dickson's leadership and accused the party of manipulating the primary process.
In a post on her verified X handle on Thursday, Yesufu stated that Dickson appeared to be in competition with Peter Obi and was “fighting a war no one is waging against him.”
Responding to the criticisms at the stakeholders' venue, Dickson defended the party's decisions and claimed that the leadership had tried to accommodate her ambitions elsewhere.
“Now, talking about the FCT, do you know that Peter Obi and I offered Aisha Yesufu a House of Representatives ticket, but she turned it down? House of Representatives that people are fighting for, she said she’s too big for it,” he said.
