The breakthrough occurred on Sunday, August 9, when a Nigerian woman spotted Elobuike wandering the streets of Dallas, Texas, carrying bags containing his personal belongings.

The woman, whose name has not been disclosed, intervened out of concern for Elobuike's well-being. Upon questioning him, she discovered he is an indigene of Enugu State. Elobuike was able to identify his mother as Evelyn Elobuike and his sister as Josephine Elobuike.
