Singer Nissi Ogulu, the sister of Grammy Award-winning artist Burna Boy, has publicly addressed and refuted widespread online speculation alleging that her brother terminated their mother's role as his manager.
Viral Claims and Family Response
The rumours ignited on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, after an account named ChaftsAfrica shared an alleged Instagram Story post attributed to Burna Boy. The post claimed the Afrobeats star had decided to part ways professionally with his mother and long-time manager, Bose Ogulu. The viral tweet quoted a supposed statement: "Burna Boy officially decided that his mother will no longer manage his career... it's time for him to separate business from family."
Another social media user amplified the claim with a tweet stating, "Just heard Burna Boy fired his mom; this whole thing is getting crazier." This post directly caught the attention of Burna Boy's sister, Nissi, who swiftly intervened to label the reports as completely false.
A Look Back at 2014 Management Shift
This is not the first time such a topic has surfaced. Reports from Vanguard in 2014 confirm that Burna Boy did make a similar announcement on his Twitter account at that time. He stated then that his mother would no longer be his manager, expressing gratitude for her work but noting it was time to "let my mother be my mother and let my manager be my manager."
However, the singer later reversed this decision, tweeting his excitement at having his "mom and best friend back" and clarifying that there would be "no more business" between them in a professional capacity, effectively reinstating her as his manager.
Netizens React to the Debunked Rumours
Nissi's clarification sparked a wave of reactions from Nigerian netizens on X, who largely condemned the spread of fake news. User JustKelechi noted, "People are just steady making up things now also saw a lot of fake videos going around."
Kaydeyofficial showed support, saying, "Nissi no worry we know it's fake news, these guys just like to run with agenda and people will eat it up because of their hate for Burna Boy." Another user, baddest_cash, expressed confusion over the origin of the false story, while arhcent called for accountability, stating, "Nissi, we need people to be held accountable. They are not faceless."
The resurgence of these management rumours coincides with other online discussions concerning the artist, including reports about low ticket sales for his recent shows, making it a period of heightened, though often inaccurate, social media chatter about the star's career.
