Veteran Nollywood actress Rita Edochie has responded to Judy Austin's claim that her ex-husband, Mr Obasi, was paid to destroy her marriage to actor Yul Edochie. The actress questioned who allegedly paid Judy to break up May Edochie's marriage and defended Mr Obasi's decision to speak publicly about his pain.
Rita Edochie Questions Judy Austin's Claims
In a lengthy statement shared on Instagram, Rita Edochie reacted to Judy's assertion that some people paid her ex-husband to speak against her and ruin her home. Rita questioned Judy's description of her current relationship with Yul as 'her home,' arguing that the marriage remains controversial due to its beginnings. She stated: 'Did I hear they paid Mr Obasi to scatter her home? Please, which home exactly? The one that was coveted? The stolen home?'
Rita described May Edochie's former marriage as a peaceful family that had been disrupted, highlighting the irony of Judy accusing others of destroying a home when critics have repeatedly accused her of contributing to the collapse of Yul's marriage to his first wife.
Defense of Mr Obasi
The veteran actress also defended Mr Obasi, who recently granted an interview discussing his relationship with Judy. Rita noted that many people unfairly criticized him for speaking publicly about his experiences. She questioned why social media users demand apologies from him while ignoring the emotional pain he claims to have endured. 'People often find it easy to dismiss another person's suffering when they are not personally affected,' she said.
Concerns About Selective Justice
Beyond the dispute, Rita expressed concern about society's selective approach to justice and fairness. She accused some supporters of Judy of ignoring facts and defending actions they would ordinarily condemn under different circumstances. According to her, many people choose sides based on personal interests rather than principles. 'Some individuals only support justice when it benefits them and remain silent when confronted with uncomfortable truths,' she added.
