RMD gifts wife his biggest possessions, including ₦100m cheque

Veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, has opened up about his approach to gift-giving in his marriage, revealing that he makes it a priority to hand over his largest possessions to his wife. Speaking on The Morayo Show, the actor disclosed that his wife's primary love language is receiving gifts, and he ensures she never has to request anything from him.

Gifting the first ₦100 million cheque

RMD recalled a milestone moment early in his career when he received his first major cheque worth approximately ₦100 million. Rather than depositing it into his own account, he instructed his manager to hand it directly to his wife. "The first time I had the biggest cheque in my life, like 100m, my manager had gone to pick it up, and I said, 'Give it to my wife,'" he said.

When she received the cheque, she asked if he wanted her to keep it for their children. RMD responded, "No, keep it for yourself." He acknowledged that a large portion of the money would ultimately benefit their family, but he deliberately chose to give it to her as a gesture of love and appreciation.

Wife's love language and public acknowledgment

According to RMD, his wife's love language is gifts, and she often publicly credits him for the things she owns. "These days, it’s never about flowers and chocolates anymore. Ladies like money. For my wife, a trip abroad must have a shopping mall. Her love language is gifts," he explained.

He added that one of the greatest compliments he receives is hearing her tell others that her husband buys everything she needs. "I think that the biggest compliment that I ever get from her is that whatever important thing she has or holds, she will tell you that my husband buys everything that I need, so I try to gift her enough," he said.

Son Tega's acting career

RMD also spoke about his son, Tega, who surprised him by deciding to pursue acting. The actor noted that none of his other children had shown interest in following his career path. "He never once told me he wanted to act. It was during graduation that we were taking pictures when he told me that he wanted to act, and I’m like 'Why didn’t you say something since because none of my kids is into what I am doing,'" RMD recounted.

Maintaining a youthful appearance

When asked about how he has managed to maintain a youthful look over the years, RMD attributed it to a healthy lifestyle. He said he tries to eat well and exercise regularly. He also shared advice from an older person who told him that growing older should never mean allowing an old mindset to take over. That philosophy, he believes, has helped him stay vibrant and energetic.
