Suri Cruise, the 20-year-old daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, has legally severed ties with her famous father by dropping his surname. According to voter registration records obtained by PEOPLE, Suri now goes by the surname Noelle—her mother's middle name—since October 2024.
Legal Name Change Confirmed by Courts
Pennsylvania courts confirmed to Page Six that an individual must use their legal name to vote, implying that Suri has undergone a formal name change. The outlet also reported that the name change may have been processed in New York, despite Suri having been born in Los Angeles and living in Pennsylvania since 2024.
Suri had already stopped using Cruise socially for some years, but this marks the official legal step. She used Suri Noelle during her high school graduation in June 2024 and is now a junior at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
Estrangement from Tom Cruise
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes welcomed Suri in April 2006, marrying in November 2005. The couple divorced in 2012. TMZ reports that Suri has been estranged from her father since she was seven years old. The name change solidifies the distance between them.
Noelle is the middle name of Katie Holmes, who has raised Suri primarily as a single mother since the divorce. Suri's decision to adopt her mother's middle name as her surname reflects her close bond with Holmes and her desire to forge her own identity apart from her father's Hollywood legacy.
