Tekno Says COVID-19 Lockdown Changed Love and Marriage Forever
Tekno: Lockdown Changed Love and Marriage Forever

Nigerian Afrobeats star Augustine Kelechi, popularly known as Tekno, has shared a bold opinion about why relationships and marriages seem different today. The singer believes the COVID-19 pandemic may have permanently changed how people approach love and commitment.

Lockdown Exposed Relationship Cracks

Speaking during a recent interview on Cool FM, the Duro crooner explained that the lockdown forced many couples to spend extended periods together, revealing truths they had previously ignored. 'People got to spend time with their partners that period, so maybe they got to realise they don't really like them,' he said.

According to Tekno, this realization left many individuals emotionally guarded, reluctant to fall deeply in love. He noted that the experience exposed cracks in relationships that busy schedules had once hidden.

Marriage Struggles in Modern Times

Tekno expressed concern over what he described as growing struggles in marriages today. He referenced reports involving older public figures and younger celebrities, suggesting that changing social values have affected relationships across generations. 'Marriages don't work. You even have some of our legends' wives getting chopped by some of the new boys,' he stated.

Although he did not name names, the remark has sparked conversations about recent celebrity relationship dynamics.

Nostalgia for Authentic Love

Reflecting on the past, Tekno said he misses a time when love felt more authentic. He noted that older Nollywood movies revolved around romance and emotional connection, unlike many modern productions that focus on fame and social media influence. 'There was a time where love was a thing, for real. Even our movies revolved around love. Now our movies are just clout and influencing. It doesn't feel organic,' he said.

The singer added that genuine relationships require both presence and absence to truly appreciate one another. 'If you can't appreciate the absence, the presence doesn't really make sense,' he added.

Broader Impact on Celebrity Relationships

Tekno's comments have fueled fresh discussions online about the state of modern romance, particularly among celebrities. His views align with ongoing debates about how social media and changing lifestyles affect emotional connections.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Tekno confirmed his popular track 'Rara' drew inspiration from Wizkid's 'Ojuelegba.' Speaking on a recent podcast, he explained that both songs share the same musical progression and expressed surprise that Wizkid almost shelved the classic record.
