Celebrity VDM Threatens Legal Action Against FAAN After Fresh Twist in Akure Airport Arrest Story
Social media critic Martins Vincent Otse, widely known online as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to apologize publicly to Nigerians. This demand follows a significant discrepancy in official reports regarding arrests near Akure Airport.
Initial Claim and Police Clarification
FAAN initially reported the arrest of four "bandits" near the Akure airport perimeter, a claim that quickly spread online and raised security concerns among residents and travelers. However, the Ondo State Police Command swiftly disputed this narrative.
According to police spokesperson Olayinka Ayanlade Jimoh, the four individuals arrested were not bandits but logistics suppliers allegedly working for kidnapping groups. Jimoh emphasized that the suspects had made confessional statements aiding ongoing investigations and urged the public to ignore the earlier bandit claims.
VDM's Strong Reaction
Reacting to the development, VDM accused FAAN of spreading misleading information that created unnecessary fear. In a strongly worded video shared on Instagram, he stated:
"FAAN you have 24 hours to apologise to the beautiful citizens of Nigeria or face a lawsuit. Your lie caused panic and put people through trauma. Why would you cook up a story like this when Nigeria is already dealing with insecurity issues?"
VDM questioned why authorities would release such information without proper verification, arguing it could damage public trust. He stressed that Nigerians deserve honesty, especially amid the country's serious security challenges.
Background and Context
The incident began when reports suggested four suspected bandits were apprehended behind the airport perimeter near the Eleyewo community. The police clarification has since shifted the online conversation, with many Nigerians questioning the origin of the initial claim.
This is not the first time VDM has been vocal on public issues. Previously, he criticized a young lady for comparing Brazilian Bum Lift surgery to childbirth, highlighting his active engagement in social debates. Additionally, a Nigerian man recently challenged VDM to prove himself by importing goods from China, though this is unrelated to the FAAN controversy.
The situation underscores ongoing tensions between public figures and government agencies over information accuracy in Nigeria's security landscape.
