A woman who personally sought financial help from the late Comrade Toba Ajiboye, widely known as Toba Ijaya, has recounted a moving encounter that highlights his generosity. In a video circulating on Facebook after his death, she described him as a deeply compassionate figure who used his own resources to uplift ordinary people. The clip has drawn emotional reactions from many viewers.
Toba Ijaya’s Instant ₦500,000 Transfer for Emergency Surgery
Speaking in Yoruba, the woman recalled visiting Toba Ijaya to ask for assistance. While she was still in his presence, another man arrived with an urgent plea: his pregnant wife had just given birth and needed an immediate surgical operation. Without hesitation, Toba Ijaya transferred ₦500,000 to the man on the spot. She described the act with visible emotion, noting that it revealed the true character of the NURTW leader behind closed doors.
“He did not even ask many questions. He just sent the money,” she said, her voice trembling. “That is the kind of person he was.”
A Peacemaker and Philanthropist in Fadeyi
The woman further stated that Toba Ijaya brought peace to the Fadeyi community in Lagos and could not bear to see people quarrel or suffer. Beyond individual acts of kindness, he ran poverty alleviation programmes, covered school fees for children through a personal scholarship scheme, and regularly reached out to those in need. She drew a pointed comparison to elected officials, saying Toba Ijaya did the work that politicians promised but rarely delivered, and he funded it all himself.
“He was a peacemaker. He stopped fights, he helped the poor, he paid school fees. He did what politicians only talk about,” she added.

Comrade Toba Ajiboye served as the Organising Secretary of the Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). He was shot by unidentified gunmen who ambushed his vehicle in the Fadeyi area of Lagos on the night of July 12, 2026. He succumbed to his injuries two days later, on July 14, 2026, and was laid to rest in Ketu, Lagos, on July 21, 2026.
