Wunmi Vows 20-Year Legal Battle in Mohbad DNA Dispute with Father-in-Law
Omowunmi Aloba, widely known as Wunmi and the widow of late Nigerian singer Mohbad, has issued a stark public declaration to her father-in-law, Mr. Joseph Aloba, amidst the intensifying controversy surrounding a DNA test for her son, Liam. During a recent and emotionally charged TikTok live session, Wunmi asserted her unwavering stance, insisting she has always supported the DNA testing process while accusing the Aloba family of deliberately misrepresenting her position to the public.
"We Will Be in This Battle for 20 Years"
"I will prove it to you over and over again that all of these things you are doing will not affect me," Wunmi declared with firm resolve. "Do what the court asked you to do with me. Beg me, if you don't do that, we will be in this battle for 20 years, I am still here." She further emphasized that Mr. Aloba holds no legal authority over her son, Liam, stating that no amount of judicial intervention would alter that fundamental reality. "One thing I love is that you got it right yesterday, that you have no power over Liam. Go to the high court, go to the appeal court, go everywhere," she challenged.
Wunmi Claims She Initiated DNA Test Request
Contradicting public narratives, Wunmi maintained that she was the original proponent of the DNA test and had attempted to resolve the matter discreetly and privately from the outset. According to her detailed account, she proactively reached out to Mohbad's father early in the process, offering to present Liam for the necessary testing, but her overture was allegedly rejected.
"I was the one that said I wanted DNA. If I had said no from the beginning, we would not move an inch," she stated. "I called you from the beginning of this case to avoid all of this. I asked if I should bring the child. He is your grandchild, but you said no."
Accusations of Property Focus and Public Spectacle
Wunmi leveled serious accusations against the Aloba family, claiming their public demands for a DNA test were a smokescreen for underlying property disputes. She alleged that private discussions were dominated by material concerns, not paternity questions. "You were screaming property, property, while going online to shout DNA, but you never discussed it with me," she asserted. She expressed frustration that her attempts at a private resolution were ignored, ultimately forcing the deeply personal family conflict into the harsh glare of social media and public discourse.
Father's Plea for DNA and Burial
Wunmi's latest public remarks arrive shortly after Joseph Aloba himself granted a media interview, making a heartfelt appeal for the DNA test to be conducted to allow his son to finally be laid to rest. "I want to plead to the whole world, I have been calling President Bola Tinubu, please I want to do this DNA. Let them do this DNA and bury my child. The burial should not take this long," Mr. Aloba stated, revealing his profound distress over the prolonged delay.
He also hinted at a desire to leave Lagos once the matter reaches a conclusion, adding, "Once I get justice, I am going back to Ekiti. I am no more living in Lagos."
Background of the Mohbad Case
The late singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, known professionally as Mohbad, tragically passed away on September 12, 2023. His body was exhumed on September 21, 2023, as part of official investigations into the sudden and mysterious circumstances of his death. Since that time, the case has captivated national attention, sparking widespread calls for justice and transparency.
The specific dispute over the paternity of his son, Liam, has evolved into a parallel legal and social media drama, with conflicting accounts from Wunmi and the Aloba family creating a complex web of allegations and counter-allegations. Despite ongoing court proceedings, this bitter familial disagreement continues to prevent closure, further delaying the much-anticipated burial of the beloved music artist and prolonging the anguish for all involved parties.
