An old social media post by Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, in which he praised former Labour Party presidential candidate and ex-Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, has resurfaced online. This comes amid the actor's recent criticism of the politician.
In a comment from 2018, when Obi was the vice presidential candidate for Atiku Abubakar under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Yul described Obi as a blessing to Nigeria. The actor highlighted Obi's understanding of the education crisis in the country, stating, "Nigeria is blessed to have him, Ex Governor Peter Obi. One of our biggest problems in Nigeria is lack of Education. Now we have a man who understands that and is out to fix it. I am Seriously ATIKUlated 2019. And I will not rest until Nigeria is fully ATIKUlated PDP."
The resurfaced post contrasts sharply with Yul's recent remarks questioning Obi's leadership and identity as an Igbo man. In a post on his verified X handle on May 1, 2026, Yul claimed that Obi lacks the spirit of Ndi Igbo and has not lifted people out of poverty. He wrote, "He does not have the spirit of Ndi Igbo in him. He's not a leader. The true spirit of Ndi Igbo is 'onye aghana nwanne ya'. As you rise, you lift others."
Yul also questioned Obi's impact despite years in public office and business, presenting himself as more influential, noting that some Nollywood colleagues attribute their success to him.
