Preparations are in high gear for the highly anticipated West Africa Heroes Awards 2026, set to take place on May 9 at the prestigious Freetown International Conference Centre, Bintumani, Aberdeen, Sierra Leone. The event will gather distinguished personalities, policymakers, innovators, and change-makers from across West Africa to celebrate leadership, service, and regional excellence.
About the Awards
Organised by Heroes Media Group, the awards have become a notable regional platform recognising individuals and institutions making meaningful contributions to governance, entrepreneurship, development, and social transformation across the sub-region. As the maiden edition, this year’s event is expected to host an impressive lineup of dignitaries from across West Africa, further reinforcing Sierra Leone’s growing reputation as a hub for regional engagement and collaboration.
Event Highlights
Beyond honouring outstanding achievements, the event aims to stimulate dialogue on peace building, economic growth, and cross-border partnerships essential to sustainable development in the region. A major highlight will be the Heroes Legacy Lecture, delivered by Honourable Chief Justice Komba Kamanda of the Republic of Sierra Leone. His address will focus on critical themes such as justice, governance, national cohesion, and the role of leadership in building resilient and sustainable societies.
The Board of Trustees of Heroes Media Group has called on citizens and stakeholders across Sierra Leone and the wider West African region to support the initiative. They stressed that the West Africa Heroes Awards represents more than a ceremonial event; it is a platform designed to inspire progress, strengthen regional cooperation, and reposition Sierra Leone as a centre for progressive dialogue and innovation.
Master of Ceremonies
To add glamour and continental appeal to the ceremony, Dr. Munirat Antoinette Lecky, popularly known as Anto Lecky, has been confirmed as the Master of Ceremonies. Anto Lecky is a notable media personality and former Big Brother Naija star (2018 edition) who has successfully transitioned into leadership roles within the creative and academic sectors. Currently serving as Creative Director at Weldios University, she also holds a strategic government position as Special Adviser to the Governor of Edo State on Tourism and Creative Economy.
