Lagos Blue Line to Run 54 Trips for Wizkid's GOAT Concert on Dec 28
Lagos Blue Line Adds 54 Trips for Wizkid Concert

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has announced a major boost in train services to facilitate movement for the highly anticipated Wizkid concert this weekend. The Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line will significantly expand its operations on Sunday, 28 December 2025, to accommodate thousands of fans heading to the "G.O.A.T: The Greatest Of All Time Experience" show at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS).

Enhanced Train Schedule for Concert Day

In a public notice issued via its official X account, LAMATA revealed that the Blue Line will operate 54 train trips on Sunday. This marks a substantial increase from the regular Sunday schedule of just 22 trips. The enhanced service will run at 30-minute intervals from 6:30 a.m. until 9:30 p.m., strategically timed for the event's flow.

The concert itself is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, 28 December, and is set to run through until 6:00 a.m. on Monday, 29 December 2025. Normal weekday operations, featuring 90 daily trips starting at 6:30 a.m., will resume on Monday following the event.

Building on Electric Line's Capacity

This special arrangement builds upon the increased operational capacity achieved since the Blue Line's transition to full electric power. In October 2023, LAMATA completed the shift from diesel to electric-powered operations, a move that initially allowed daily trips to jump from 12 to 54.

During the electrification phase, LAMATA's Managing Director, Abimbola Akinajo, emphasized that the switch was designed to support higher frequency and greater passenger capacity, despite necessary temporary suspensions for safety testing. The line, which runs between Marina and Mile 2 along the Badagry corridor, was officially launched for passenger service in September 2023 by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Since its launch, the Blue Line has proven to be a vital artery for Lagos commuters. LAMATA previously reported that the service transported over 80,000 passengers in its early months, with projections pointing to even higher numbers as services and public awareness expand.

Strategic Transport for Major Lagos Events

The decision to run additional trips underscores a growing pattern of proactive transport planning around major events in Lagos, particularly those held on Lagos Island where road congestion can be severe. Tafawa Balewa Square is a premier venue for national and cultural gatherings, often requiring such coordinated public transport strategies to ensure smooth access.

LAMATA has not announced any changes to fares or station access protocols for the concert period. Passengers are expected to use the existing stations along the Blue Line corridor under normal operating conditions. This initiative highlights the state's commitment to leveraging its modern rail infrastructure to improve mobility and manage traffic during large-scale events, offering a reliable alternative for concertgoers.
