Resilience and Unity Take Center Stage at 2026 Kwarans and Friends Forum
The 2026 edition of the Kwarans and Friends Forum, meticulously organized by Omotomo Colour Media Concept, evolved into a dynamic convergence of advocacy and inspiration this week. This prestigious gathering assembled a distinguished array of traditional rulers, political leaders, and media veterans, with the central focus firmly placed on the critical themes of 'Humanity and Peaceful Coexistence'. The event not only provided a high-level platform for in-depth discussions on Nigeria's complex security landscape but also served as a heartfelt celebration of its convener, AbdulWasiu Salaudeen, widely known as Omotomocolour.
A Tribute to Tenacity and Triumph
AbdulWasiu Salaudeen, a dedicated staffer at Radio Nigeria, was honored as a living embodiment of the human spirit's victory over physical limitations. The Chief Host and General Manager of Bond FM, Alhaji AbdulWahab Akoshile, delivered a moving tribute, emphasizing Salaudeen's remarkable career journey as a beacon of hope for individuals facing similar obstacles. Akoshile remarked, "There is a common saying that there is ability in disability; AbdulWasiu is the living proof. He has proven to us that no matter your situation in life, you can excel if you can think." He further noted that Salaudeen's reputation has soared, with high-profile figures across Nigeria actively seeking him out for interviews, a clear testament to his exceptional craftsmanship and unwavering tenacity.
Addressing Systemic National Challenges
Beyond the personal accolades, the forum delved into the systemic issues confronting the Nigerian state. In his keynote lecture on peaceful coexistence, Alhaji Lukman Garu, CEO of Garu Technology, identified security as the most critical and fraying thread in the national fabric. He stated, "Security is our common goal, yet it is what we lack most." Garu argued that achieving a better Nigeria necessitates a fundamental shift in leadership philosophy, asserting that strong leadership is essential for peace, even if it requires stern actions that some may fear due to public condemnation. He stressed that without a solid security foundation, the nation cannot progress.
Adding to this discourse, Princess Adenike Adejoke, Director of FRCN Lagos Operations, highlighted that national peace is intrinsically linked to domestic harmony. She noted, "God created us to live peacefully, and this begins within the family before it transcends to the country at large." This perspective underscored the importance of grassroots efforts in fostering broader societal stability.
Insights from Traditional Institutions
The event featured significant representation from Nigeria's traditional institutions, with rulers offering their wisdom and praise. The Bashelu of Idofin Kingdom, Alhaji Tajudeen Sanni, commended Salaudeen's work ethic, observing that his dedication often surpasses that of individuals without physical hurdles. Similarly, the Onigbongbo of Igogbo, Oba Olusegun Ajasa, lauded the convener for his refusal to remain idle, stating, "God knows why He created you this way; your strength is an inspiration." These endorsements reinforced the forum's message of resilience and community support.
Vision for Future Engagement
In an address filled with gratitude, AbdulWasiu Salaudeen explained that the forum was his way of giving back to those who supported his media journey. He articulated a vision centered on encouraging dialogue as a powerful tool for strengthening communal ties. The event included awards presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to peace-building, recognizing their efforts in promoting harmony. Salaudeen also solicited further financial support to scale his dream project, aimed at fostering greater social engagement and expanding the forum's impact in future editions.
