In a surprise announcement at Comic-Con in San Diego on Saturday, July 25, British actor David Jonsson was unveiled as the new Black Panther in the franchise's highly anticipated third installment. The 32-year-old London-born actor will portray Prince T'Challa II, the son of the late King T'Challa, originally played by Chadwick Boseman, who died in 2020 at age 43 after a private battle with cancer.

Director Ryan Coogler introduced Jonsson on stage, telling the crowd, "I want you to give a warm welcome to our new Black Panther: Mr David Jonsson." Jonsson responded, "Thank you Ryan. Thank you Kevin. Thank you to this amazing family that I have the honour and privilege and the blessing to join."
Jonsson's Rising Career
Jonsson is best known for his roles in the 2024 sci-fi franchise film Alien: Romulus and the 2025 adaptation of Stephen King's thriller The Long Walk. In 2025, he also won the BAFTA Rising Star Award, cementing his status as a talent to watch.
