Hollywood star Eva Longoria has opened up about her deliberate decision to become a mother later in life, explaining why waiting until age 43 proved to be the perfect timing for her family journey.
Wisdom and Patience of Later Motherhood
During a candid interview with The Sunday Times, the renowned actress and film producer shared that becoming a parent in her forties brought unexpected advantages. Longoria emphasized that she now possesses "so much more wisdom and patience" as a mother compared to what she might have had at a younger age.
The Desperate Housewives icon, who shares son Santiago Enrique Baston with husband Jose 'Pepe' Baston, revealed that her approach to parenting is significantly different because of her life experience. "Forty years of me was enough time," Longoria stated, reflecting on her decision to prioritize motherhood after establishing her career and personal growth.
Transformed Career Priorities
Longoria's perspective on her professional life has undergone a dramatic shift since welcoming her son in 2018. The actress now carefully evaluates every role opportunity through the lens of family time. She only accepts projects that involve working with people she genuinely wants to collaborate with, recognizing that each commitment takes valuable time away from her son.
"My family is my priority," Longoria explained during the interview. "So if I'm saying yes to something and it's taking time away from them, it's got to be something I'm really going to enjoy and people I really want to work with."
Balancing Family and Professional Dreams
The accomplished actress feels blessed by her timing, noting that she had already achieved significant career milestones and personal goals before embracing motherhood. Longoria had traveled extensively and accomplished everything she wanted professionally before starting her family journey.
"Now everything I do is just icing on the cake and I get to do that with my son," she shared, highlighting the joy of sharing her experiences with her young child.
Despite her family-first approach, Longoria continues to pursue meaningful professional projects. She is set to direct a Netflix comedy called The Fifth Wheel, which will feature reality television star Kim Kardashian. The actress credits her husband Baston for providing crucial support that enables her to balance career ambitions with family responsibilities.
Longoria and Baston married in 2016 and welcomed their son Santiago in 2018. In addition to raising their biological child, Longoria also serves as stepmother to Jose's three children from a previous relationship: Natalia and twins Mariana and Jose Antonio.
