Nigerian Woman Relocates Back to UK After Short Stay in Nigeria, Highlights Health Worries
A Nigerian woman who initially returned to Nigeria from the United Kingdom to address mental health challenges has now moved back to the UK after only a few months. In a TikTok video that has gone viral, the married mother explained her decision, which has ignited a flurry of reactions across social media platforms.
Initial Move for Mental Well-being
The woman disclosed that she originally left the UK for Nigeria because she felt overwhelmed by the pressures of motherhood without adequate support abroad. She believed that relocating her family to Nigeria would offer a more peaceful and manageable lifestyle, hoping it would alleviate her mental health struggles.
Children's Health Issues Prompt Return
However, her stay in Nigeria was cut short due to serious concerns about her children's health. She reported that her kids frequently fell ill, contracting diseases such as mumps and malaria. This constant sickness, she said, forced her to prioritize their well-being over her own comfort.
In her own words from the TikTok video:"So my kids were always sick in Nigeria. There was mumps, there was malaria, there was... it was a lot. That I got so scared, because it's not just my life now. I will happily be there and be sick, and they will take care of me. If I die, I die. But when it comes to other people's life in your hands, you have no choice than to receive sense."Access to Emergency Medical Care
The woman emphasized that the lack of reliable emergency medical services in Nigeria was a key factor in her decision. She noted that in the UK, she could easily call for an ambulance at any hour, such as 2:00 AM or 4:00 AM, and receive prompt hospital care for her children. This contrast made her feel compelled to return, despite finding Nigeria peaceful in other aspects.
She added:
"So I told myself, even though I'm happy here, I'm at peace here, let me put them first. Let me take them back to where I know I can call A&E 2:00 AM, 4:00 AM and they will come and pick the kids to the hospital. After five months of back-to-back sickness, despite the good parts, the amazing parts... Nigeria is amazing. But because of these one or two things, I had to give up and bring them back here 'cause they are British-born."Social Media Reactions
The video has sparked mixed responses online. Some users expressed sympathy and support for her difficult choice, while others debated the broader issues of healthcare and living conditions in Nigeria versus abroad.
