Financial Struggles Push Veteran Actor into Odd Jobs
Veteran Nollywood actor Sunday Afolabi has opened up about the financial struggles that pushed him into different jobs, including commercial bus driving. Speaking on Talk to B Show, Afolabi said relocating to Badagry made it difficult for him to get acting jobs in central Lagos.
He eventually sold his car, worked as a motorcycle rider and later tried tailoring, solar installation, photography and minibus driving. He said he would rather take up any legitimate job than beg for food.
Relocation to Badagry and Its Impact
Afolabi explained that moving to Badagry significantly affected his ability to secure acting roles, as most auditions and productions are based in central Lagos. The distance and transportation costs made it challenging to attend casting calls and film sets regularly.
To survive, he sold his car to meet immediate needs, then took to riding a motorcycle as a commercial operator. He later diversified into tailoring, solar installation, photography, and finally driving a minibus for commercial purposes.
Appeal for Accommodation and a Reliable Car
Afolabi also appealed for accommodation closer to Lagos and a reliable car he could use for Uber, saying this would help him return to acting jobs more easily. He believes that with these supports, he can rebuild his career and regain financial stability.
His story highlights the challenges faced by many entertainers in Nigeria, where irregular income and lack of social safety nets can push even established figures into precarious situations.
