Confidence Maye Utomi, a Nigerian woman, has shared a powerful testimony of how she married a virgin man despite not being a virgin herself. Her story, posted on Facebook, has gone viral, resonating with many who have struggled with feelings of unworthiness due to past mistakes.
Overcoming the Fear of Rejection
Utomi revealed that she lost her virginity seven years before her wedding day, a fact that made her believe she would never find a decent man to marry. She recalled hearing people say, "You can never marry a virgin man as long as you are not a virgin yourself. Virgin men go for virgin women." These words instilled fear in her, making her worry that no good man would accept her.
"The day I lost my virginity, I cried because I felt I had ruined my future," she wrote. "I believed I had reduced my chances of getting a good husband. I thought every decent man would reject me because of one mistake."
A Relationship Built on Honesty
When Utomi began dating her future husband, she decided to be upfront about her past. She told him she needed to share something important, and when he gave her his full attention, she revealed that she was no longer a virgin. His response was unexpected but gracious.
"He asked me how it happened, and I narrated everything to him. He didn’t blame me neither did he condemned me for anything that happened, he just accepted me for who I was," she recounted. "I wasn’t really even surprised because where there’s genuine love, grace speaks louder than condemnation."
A Message of Hope and Grace
Utomi’s story is a testament to the power of grace and the belief that one’s past does not define their future. She encouraged young girls who have made similar mistakes to stop condemning themselves. "Please stop killing yourself because you lost your virginity. Stop believing that one mistake has automatically disqualified you from having a good marriage," she urged.
She emphasized that a person’s value is not tied to their virginity. "Your value did not disappear because your virginity did," she said. "Open your heart and your mind to the possibility that God can still write a beautiful story with your life."
Don’t Settle for Less
Utomi’s advice is clear: do not settle for less because of past mistakes. "Don’t enter toxic relationships because you feel nobody else will accept you. Don’t marry out of fear or anxiety," she wrote. "God has a way of making people realize that His grace is greater than our mistakes. No matter how rough your past may be, you can marry God’s best child."
Her testimony has sparked conversations about grace, forgiveness, and the importance of not letting societal expectations dictate one’s worth. It serves as a reminder that everyone deserves love and a fulfilling marriage, regardless of their past.
