Nigerian Afrobeats star Ahmed Ololade, known professionally as Asake, has premiered the concert film for his latest album M$NEY exclusively on Spotify. The film, titled Asake – M$NEY Live in London (Spotify Live), captures a one-night performance at London's historic Theatre Royal Drury Lane in June, held in partnership with the streaming platform.
A Historic Performance at Theatre Royal Drury Lane
Asake's performance marked a milestone as the first time an Afrobeats artist headlined a concert at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. The event was produced in collaboration with Spotify and featured a live orchestra, a 40-member choir, and four unreleased songs. According to Spotify, the film represents the platform's first full-length live album performance film.
The concert was attended by nearly 2,000 invited guests, including some of Asake's top listeners on Spotify. The singer was backed by renowned live band The Compozers, alongside the orchestra and choir, delivering tracks from M$NEY as well as the unreleased material.
The Concert Experience
Spotify noted that the performance was an exclusive, immersive experience designed to bring the album's themes to life. The concert film follows similar Spotify Live releases featuring global artists such as Bad Bunny, Olivia Rodrigo, and Skye Newman, but this marks the first time the platform has produced a full-length live album film for an Afrobeats artist.
In addition to the film, Spotify has also released an audio version of the live performance for streaming, allowing fans to listen to the concert in audio format.
Asake on the Meaning Behind the Performance
Speaking about the concert film, Asake described the performance as a reflection of the message behind M$NEY. He said, “This performance was a reflection of everything M$NEY represents: gratitude, growth, my spiritual and creative journey, all in one. Everything flows from a place of gratitude to God, and every moment that’s shaped me, and I hope that comes through.”
He added, “M$NEY was always meant to travel. When you feel good music, you feel it in your chest. That’s what I wanted this album to be, something that crosses every border. I start touring the album later this year, but I always like to give my fans a few surprises, which I was able to do with this performance. I’m glad we’re able to share it with fans worldwide.”
Album Success and Global Impact
Released in May, M$NEY explores themes of gratitude, ambition, spirituality, and personal growth. According to Spotify, the album topped streaming charts in 19 countries, including Nigeria. The streaming platform also reported that Asake was ranked the 15th digital artist globally by Kworb Data following the album's release.
The concert film and its audio counterpart are available exclusively on Spotify, offering fans a unique way to experience the album's live rendition.
