Davido treated a select audience in New York City to an exclusive preview of his sixth studio album, ORIADÉ, on Thursday night, just hours before the 13-track project hit major streaming platforms worldwide. The Afrobeats superstar, born David Adeleke, chose the intimate Amber Room for the event, presented by Martell, setting the stage for one of the most anticipated releases of his career.
An Album Marking 15 Years of Dominance
The listening party arrives as Davido celebrates 15 years in the music industry, a career that has seen him evolve from a breakout Nigerian act into a global ambassador for Afrobeats. ORIADÉ follows his 2025 project 5ive, continuing a catalogue that includes Omo Baba Olowo: The Genesis (2012), A Good Time (2019), A Better Time (2020) and Timeless (2023).
What ORIADÉ Means
Derived from the Yoruba words “Ori” (head or destiny) and “Adé” (crown), ORIADÉ translates to “the head that wears the crown.” Davido has described the title as symbolising purpose, fulfilment and what he calls his “crown era,” while also reflecting his desire to reconnect with the African roots of his music. The 13-track album explores themes of destiny, legacy, community and the singer’s personal and artistic evolution over the past decade and a half.
Star-Studded Guest List
Among those at the New York celebration were Davido’s wife, Chioma, his manager Asa Asika, longtime collaborator DJ ECool and other close friends and associates. The intimate setting allowed for a relaxed yet electric atmosphere as guests eagerly awaited the first play of the project.
First Listen and Surprise Performance
Ahead of the album’s midnight release, invited guests received an exclusive first listen to the entire project as DJ ECool played ORIADÉ in full. Davido later joined him on stage to perform selections from the record, giving attendees a live taste of the new material. One of the evening’s most memorable moments came when Ghanaian rapper and singer Black Sherif made a surprise appearance to perform “Amazing Grace,” his collaboration with Davido featured on the album. The crowd was also treated to Afrobeats-inspired cocktails, curated as part of the Martell-sponsored event.
A Return to African Roots
In recent interviews ahead of the album’s release, Davido said ORIADÉ represents a conscious return to the sounds and identity that first defined Afrobeats. He added that he wanted the project to embrace African culture rather than seek validation from Western audiences. This artistic direction is reflected in the album’s collaborations, which feature a mix of African and international talent, including Black Sherif, Leon Thomas, Aya Nakamura and Llona.
