Nigerian singer FOLA has incorporated spoken words from renowned author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie into his sophomore album, 9, released on October 9, 2026. The track, titled “How Many?”, is the second on the 14-track project and features Adichie’s voice addressing themes of procrastination, fear, and self-doubt in creative work.
A Tribute to Influential Figures
FOLA’s album 9 serves as a tribute to influential figures whose work continues to inspire younger creatives. In a post on X, the singer expressed gratitude to Adichie and music icon 2Baba Idibia for their contributions to the project and the arts at large.
“Today, I’m beyond grateful to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and the legendary 2Baba for their contribution to the arts, their blessings on my sophomore, and for leaving my generation multiple standards to aspire to,” he wrote.
Adichie’s Spoken Words on “How Many?”
Although Adichie does not appear as a conventional guest vocalist, her spoken words are woven into “How Many?”. The excerpt delves into the psychological hurdles artists often face. In the recording, Adichie says: “Procrastinating is a form of fear. And it is difficult to acknowledge fear. But the truth is that you cannot create anything of value without both self-doubt and self-belief.”
2Baba’s Influence on “Crime”
Similarly, FOLA pays tribute to 2Baba on the track “Crime”, which samples elements from the veteran singer’s classic song “If Love Is a Crime”. This nod underscores 2Baba’s enduring impact on Nigerian music.

9 is a 14-track project that follows FOLA’s 2025 debut album, Catharsis. The new album features collaborations with prominent artists including Davido, Ayra Starr, BNXN, Darkoo, Bella Shmurda, and Zlatan, as FOLA continues to build his place in the Afrobeats genre.
