FIFA has confirmed that global music icons Madonna, Shakira, and K-pop superstars BTS will headline a Super Bowl-style halftime show at the 2026 World Cup final. The match is scheduled for July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, concluding the tournament co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Supporting Global Education
The halftime show will support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which aims to raise $100 million to improve access to quality education and football opportunities for children worldwide. Over $30 million has already been generated, with FIFA confirming that one dollar from every ticket sold for World Cup matches will go toward social projects globally.
Historic Event
FIFA President Gianni Infantino described the event as a historic moment uniting football, music, and humanitarian impact. He stated, "Madonna, Shakira, and BTS are global icons whose music transcends borders and generations. This show will also shine a light on supporting education and football opportunities for children."
Reports suggest the show may exceed the standard 15-minute halftime interval allowed by the laws of the game. Popular children's television characters from Sesame Street and The Muppets are also expected to feature, promoting learning and child development.
Artists' Reactions
Madonna said performing at the World Cup final would be "deeply meaningful." Shakira revealed she will perform "Dai Dai," a song created specifically for the tournament and the education initiative. BTS described music as "the universal language of hope and harmony" and expressed honor in supporting children's education through the event.
