The track serves as the lead single for their upcoming joint EP, 'Heartbreak Hotel,' scheduled for release on October 2, 2026. This marks the duo's second collaborative project, following their previous work together.
A New Chapter in Afropop and Alté
'True Love' blends laid-back Afropop with alté influences, creating a warm, groove-forward sound that leans into bittersweet emotion rather than outright sadness. Sung in both pidgin and English, the song explores two perspectives on heartbreak: Mr Jabba gives his all in a relationship yet finds it insufficient, while Legend Harry walks away from a love burdened by conditions. The chorus captures the sentiment plainly: 'Said she wants some true love, and I gave her true love.'
The single is described as the genesis of the 'Heartbreak Hotel' EP, which the artists say is built on honesty over performance. According to Mr Jabba, the project draws from real-life experiences in love and relationships, with 'True Love' being the most personal track for him.
Visualiser and Creative Direction
A companion visualiser for 'True Love,' directed by DM Visuals, is scheduled for release on September 11, 2026. The visualiser is built around the creative theme of 'echoes of presence,' using quiet, intimate interiors and restraint to convey emotion. Elements like a glass left behind, a mirror that holds more than it should, and a room that still feels shared are used to let the emotion linger in what remains unsaid.
Mr Jabba, whose real name is AbdulJabbar Momoh, hails from Edo State and has royal roots. He is pushing a grand vision called the Jabbaverse, which spans Sound, Culture, and Tech. Following his last single 'Ooh Baby (Jollof),' the 'Heartbreak Hotel' EP is the next stop before his debut album, 'Sons of Medinat,' which tells a larger story about culture, life, hustle, growth, and love.
