Celebrities Voice Outrage Over Brutal Church Attack in Kwara

Prominent Nigerian entertainers have expressed profound shock and condemnation following a violent attack by bandits on worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday evening during a church program, has drawn widespread outrage across the entertainment industry.

The Kwara State Police Command confirmed the attack on Wednesday, revealing disturbing details about the assault. According to official reports, armed gunmen stormed the church premises, shooting one worshipper inside the auditorium before marching several congregants into the nearby forest.

Nollywood Stars Lead Emotional Responses

Nollywood actress Funke Akindele took to social media platform X to express her grief and frustration. "They are harmless citizens for God's sake!!! I'm so weak. Chai," she wrote, accompanied by crying emojis. The popular actress described waking up to a livestream video showing the horrific attack unfolding.

"Woke up to see a livestream video of people being attacked inside a church in Kwara. This is sad and disturbing," Akindele added. "I wept seeing that old woman who couldn't walk well running for safety." Her emotional response highlighted the traumatic nature of the incident that left one worshipper dead in the bush and a vigilante injured while attempting to confront the attackers.

Gospel Music Community Demands Divine Intervention

Renowned gospel singer Nathaniel Bassey issued a powerful prayer calling for judgment against those responsible for the violence. In a lengthy post, Bassey declared, "I believe with all my heart that this is the time and season for the enemies of this nation to be judged once and for all – TERRORISTS, BANDITS, KIDNAPPERS AND ALL WHO FUND, SPONSOR AND SUPPORT THEM."

Bassey emphasized the urgency of addressing Nigeria's security crisis, warning that "If we miss this season, we may never get it again." He described Nigeria as "one of the greatest nations on earth" while demanding that "these killers, kidnappers, bandits and the architects of these evil systems must be judged!"

Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P from the music duo P-Square, delivered a blunt assessment of the situation. "Nigeria is BLEEDING and the government is SLEEPING. I am so heartbroken," he stated, capturing the frustration felt by many Nigerians regarding the escalating security challenges.

Growing Calls for Government Action

The entertainment industry's reaction extended beyond emotional responses to direct political criticism. Rapper Folarin Falana, known professionally as Falz, specifically called out President Bola Tinubu over the deteriorating security situation and demanded his resignation.

"You have consistently shown your unwillingness to protect the lives and property of our people despite pretending to care in the past. RESIGN NOW!" Falz wrote in his social media post.

The condemnation spread throughout the entertainment community, with other notable figures including Mr Macaroni, Jaywon, Tim Godfrey, Dunsin Oyekan, and Frank Edwards joining the chorus of voices demanding immediate action from security agencies.

The Kwara church attack occurred barely 24 hours after gunmen abducted 25 female students from a boarding school in Kebbi State, highlighting the alarming frequency of such security breaches across Nigeria. The incident has also drawn international attention, with award-winning rapper Nicki Minaj recently speaking at a United Nations event about Christian persecution in Nigeria.

As investigations continue into the Eruku church attack, the unified voice from Nigeria's entertainment industry underscores the growing public demand for concrete measures to address the nation's security crisis and protect places of worship from such violent attacks.
