A grand theatrical production is set to kick off the landmark 100th birthday celebrations for Africa's longest-serving traditional ruler. The drama, titled 'Legacy of Three Kings', will honour the centenary of Igwe Kenneth Onyenze Orizu III of Nnewi in Anambra State.
A Century of Reign and Wisdom
Born on October 30, 1925, Igwe Orizu III ascended to the throne of the Nnewi Kingdom in 1963. With over six decades of leadership, he is not only a symbol of enduring monarchy but also a living testament to wisdom, peace, and progressive development in his domain. His reign stands as a significant chapter in Nigeria's rich traditional history.
Nollywood Powers Heritage Revival
The commemorative drama aims to preserve and revitalise the deep cultural roots of the Igbo people in Nnewi, a pre-colonial kingdom with an ancient monarchy tracing back to the 15th century. The production boasts an impressive cast of celebrated Nollywood figures, including veterans like Patience Ozokwor and Chinedu Ikedieze (Aki), alongside Obi Okoli, Clemson Cornel Agbogidi, Emeka Uba, and Mc Jaghee.
Under the direction of Ikechukwu Erojikwe and production by Ifeanyi Eziukwu, the play will showcase Nnewi's unique traditions. Audiences can expect vivid portrayals of the famous Ofala festival, royal succession customs, and other progressive milestones that champion equality and unity within the community.

Ben Etiaba, Chairman of the Organising Committee, addressed journalists in Enugu, emphasising the drama's deeper purpose. He stated that the performance reinforces core communal values such as humility, honesty, and the crucial transmission of knowledge across generations.
According to Etiaba, the event is a powerful showcase of the enduring legacy of Igwe Orizu in fostering peace, progress, and unity both in Nnewi and beyond. He highlighted that 'Legacy of Three Kings' will serve as a lasting tribute to the monarch's impact. In a rapidly changing world, it ensures future generations understand and appreciate the vital role traditional institutions play in strengthening Nigeria's socio-cultural fabric.
